Winter White dwarf hamsters, Chinese hamsters and Campbell Dwarf Hamsters cannot eat pecans. This is because of the fat levels in the pecan which can cause serious issues. The size of your dwarf hamster means that it simply isn’t feasible.

There’s plenty of benefits to pecans! We already know that they provide plenty of advantages for humans, but is it the same for our furry friends? Yep! Some of the benefits of pecans include:

  • Dietary fibres – These protect your hamster’s digestive system and help it function properly
  • Vitamin E – This protects your hamster’s skin and eyes!

Risks of Pecans.

Whilst, as we have seen, there are many benefits to pecans. There’s also a few risks. These risks are only a problem if your hamster eats too many though. Some of the risks include:

  • Obesity – Pecans contain a lot of fat which can quickly cause your hamster to become overweight if they are fed too many
  • Choking – Smaller hamsters could choke on the nuts. Consider cutting them in half.
  • Nutritional deficiency – Too many monkey nuts may fill up your hamster, which could result in them not eating any more food.
